Looking for off-the-beaten-path ways to spend time in the DMV?
We've put together this map highlighting some of our favorite places in the DC area, and added a note on each why we like it.
It's definitely not a comprehensive list, but we hope it helps inspire some fun activities while you're here!
Tuesday 10/20: If you're in town early, The Room Where it Happened at the Atlas Theater will be a "Broadway cabaret celebrating the music of protest and patriotism."
Wednesday 10/21: The National Museum of Women in the Arts is open late with tours, hands-on activities, and performances. A $25 ticket also includes 2 drink tickets.
Thursday 10/22: The Library of Congress is open late until 8 p.m. for Live at the Library. It's free! Check out their exhibits and special performances. You can even get your own library card.
Friday 10/23: We recommend Soul Strolls at Congressional Cemetery. Take an after-dark tour and meet the ghosts of people from DC history buried in the cemetery. Tickets sell out! The cemetery is also great for a walk or self-guided tour in daylight.
Friday 10/23: Washington Improv Theater is performing Stumped, an interactive "fun-filled, satirical romp along the improvised campaign trails of two fictional local candidates (and their hapless but hilarious staff)". It should be a very DC experience. Vincent and I enjoyed an improvised Hallmark Christmas Movie there last year.
Sunday 10/25: The DC's Different Drummers jazz concert is at 3 p.m. and free! Details TBA on the website.
More shows: At the Folger Shakespeare Library you can see Measure for Measure for as little as $20 in a very cool Elizabethan-style theater. Meanwhile the Shakespeare Theatre Company is putting on a one-woman show Frida...A Self-Portrait about Frida Kahlo. Follow DC Improv for comedy, DC9 and the Pie Shop for music...
Anytime: Bar-hop the Metropolitan Beer Trail between NoMA and Brookland metro stations.
Anytime: Check out the Stretching the Canvas: Ten Decades of Native Painting (4th floor) and Water’s Edge: The Art of Truman Lowe (3rd floor) exhibitions at the National Museum of the American Indian- the museum is free and the art takes you on a journey.
Anytime: Book a puzzle case at Lexicon Lane at Planet Word with up to 3 buddies. It's like an escape room but you don't have to escape, and you get to run around a cool room decorated to look like a street to find clues!
