Wednesday 10/21: The National Museum of Women in the Arts is open late with tours, hands-on activities, and performances. A $25 ticket also includes 2 drink tickets.
Thursday 10/22: The Library of Congress is open late until 8 p.m. for Live at the Library. It's free! Check out their exhibits and special performances. You can even get your own library card.
Friday 10/23: at the Smithsonian Asian Art museum from 7-8:30, there's a showing of a 1926 adaptation of The Adventures of Prince Achmed, tales from The Thousand and One Nights, widely believed to be the very first animated feature film.
Sunday 10/25: The DC's Different Drummers jazz concert is at 3 p.m. and free! Details TBA on the website. Or, great local cafe Teaism is hosting a paid jazz event: Sunday Jazz & Tea at 1:00. If you're feeling something more Halloweeny, there's A Halloween Happening in Congressional Cemetery from 2-5, or local drag queen Tara Hoot's Campy Brunch Bingo (Halloween Edition) at 12:30.
Tuesday 10/27: it's the 39th Annual 17th Street High Heel Race! Entertainment starts at 6, and the race itself starts at 9 (but get there early to stake out a spot!) Vincent participated last year. 😄 Or, this quarterly event is a lot of fun and would have a Halloween spin this time: Pun DMV
Anytime: Check out the Stretching the Canvas: Ten Decades of Native Painting (4th floor) and Water’s Edge: The Art of Truman Lowe (3rd floor) exhibitions at the National Museum of the American Indian- the museum is free and the art takes you on a journey.
Anytime: Book a puzzle case at Lexicon Lane at Planet Word with up to 3 buddies. It's like an escape room but you don't have to escape, and you get to run around a cool room decorated to look like a street to find clues!
Anytime: You can rent a kayak, canoe, or SUP on the Potomac or a kayak or pedal boat in the Tidal Basin. Reservations on Thursdays are supposed to be 30% off through the end of this month!
At any time, you can bar-hop the Metropolitan Beer Trail between NoMA and Brookland metro stations.
There's always so much going on! If you know any other DC events you recommend, let us know and we can add them!
The Folger Shakespeare Library is performing Measure for Measure: tickets are as little as $20 in a very cool Elizabethan-style theater.
The Shakespeare Theatre Company is putting on Frida...A Self-Portrait, a one-woman show about Frida Kahlo.
Washington Improv Theater is performing Stumped, an interactive "fun-filled, satirical romp along the improvised campaign trails of two fictional local candidates (and their hapless but hilarious staff)". It should be a very DC experience. Vincent and I enjoyed an improvised Hallmark Christmas Movie there last year.
At Arena Stage you can see Step Afrika!'s The Fruits of Our Labor in commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, or ARE YOU NOW OR HAVE YOU EVER BEEN? about the 1940s House Un-American Activities Committee hearings.
Soul Strolls at Congressional Cemetery is currently sold out for our wedding weekend, but it's a great event! Take an after-dark tour and meet the ghosts of people from DC history buried in the cemetery. The cemetery is also great for a walk or self-guided tour in daylight.
DC Improv hosts a range of comedy shows
DC9 has bands, dance parties, watch parties, and other fun events.
The Pie Shop hosts local musicians (There're sweet and savory pies downstairs and a bar/venue upstairs!) There's also Songbyrd and The Pocket
